C50 Hungarian Defence and Giuoco Pianissimo (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.O-O d6 5.d3 Bg4 6.h3)

This game was played in the first round of the 2014 September Glacial Super Casual I tournament that is still in progress at Red Hot Pawn. This has the longest thinking times that I have ever had in any of my games. For each move you have 21 days and not only that but you also have 21 days in the bank. If this tournament would run its maximum duration it would take a very, very long time. There were eight groups that contained eight players on round 1, which meant that 64 players started in this tournament. This tournament started September 13th 2014 and it is currently on its second and possibly last round. Possibly because, in case of a tie, the winners would need to play on the third round. In this game it was me who blundered first. On move 7 I moved my queen to d7, not noticing that 8.Nxe5 was a possible response. This could have therefore been one of the humiliating losses I have suffered against players whose ratings are clearly lower than mine.

Luckily for me, golfnaturl did not notice this golden opportunity and played 8.Bb5 instead, which was much less harmful move. Interestingly, I did not probably notice the possibility of Nxe5 at all during the game because I did not do anything to prevent it. After a few moves of equal play, I messed up again and merely developed my knight to e7 on move 12, when I should have prevented the move Nxe5 by moving the bishop to f7, for instance.

My 12th move was the last blunder that I made in this game that would have allowed a huge upset to take place. The game continued with the moves 13.d4 O-O-O and then, for the first time in this game, golfnaturl made a huge mistake that allowed me to get a winning advantage. Golfnaturl played 14.b3, which allowed me to capture the knight on c3 for free and after that the game was easily winning for me.
